Located at an altitude of 1,329 m, Lachamp-Raphaël (60 inhabitants) is the highest village in the Ardèche. It is on the Atlantic-Mediterranean watershed. It is a very old village as evidenced by the ruins of the castle of Raphael (12th century) which was once owned by the abbey of Saint-Chaffre-du-Monastier. Its remains are located on the rock of Raphaël, a volcanic success located 1.5 km north of the village. The suc de Montivernoux, culminating at 1,446 metres to the south-east of the village, also 1.5 km away, can be the subject of another beautiful walk. On a clear day, the site offers a panoramic view of the Alps.
