A semi-fortified medieval village perched on its promontory at 489 m, Coux commanded the passage of the Ouvèze, between the Rhône valley and Privas, at an altitude of between 170 and 807 m. The rugged northern slopes are home to a beautiful chestnut grove, while the southern sector, with the Serre des Gras, offers a moorland formed of supra-Mediterranean species. At the bottom of the slopes, along the Ouvèze and the Mézayon, the sandstone adrets with the evocative names of "côte rôtie" or "côte chaude" also see vineyards spread out. Finally, the foothills of the Ouvèze valley, with their "faysses", are home to orchards and vegetable gardens.
