With its labyrinth of cobbled streets, this village of 1,500 inhabitants is full of character and charm. Nestled at the foot of its imposing castle, Alba was the Gallo-Roman capital of the Helvians. Numerous vestiges remain: forum, paved road, ancient theater... Alba played a leading role for a long time, a role that grew stronger with the arrival of Christianity in the 4th century. The Place du Château, with its plane trees and games of pétanque, is a must-see, as are the cool alleyways and the admirable ancient site that has been unearthed. A circus festival is held here in July.
