Saint-Rambert has 2,200 inhabitants. The city is made up of a town, which stretches along both banks of the Albarine, and nine hamlets. The town itself can be divided into two parts: the old town, formerly enclosed within the town walls, and a group of buildings, mansions and workers' housing, which belonged to the Shappe spinning mill. This spinning mill, which made the prosperity of Saint-Rambert from the end of the 19th century to the beginning of the following century (it employed more than 600 workers in 1870), closed its doors at the end of the 1980s. The Saint-Rambert abbey is 1 km away on the heights. To see: the museum of Bugist traditions.
