The town's name reveals its religious past: Les-Cloîtres-en-Gironde became Lencloître. Thanks to the founding of a priory of the fontevriste order in the 12th century, the village attracted preachers, nuns and pilgrims, as evidenced by its conventual heritage. Civil architecture is not to be outdone, with the châteaux of Picol, Cursay, la Grand'Cour and la Boutière! The village is criss-crossed by the Ligne verte (green line), with its explanatory and botanical panels. Don't miss the fair, held every1st Monday of the month, a real institution and a real treat. And when it comes to local food, there's plenty to choose from, including crushed meats, Haut-Poitou wines and fine vegetables!
