On 10 June 1944, the SS division "Das Reich" massacred 642 people, including nearly 300 children, and burned the village. It is 2 p.m. The population is gathered at the fairgrounds, groups of men are spread out in barns to be machine-gunned or burned. Women and children are locked in the church and suffer the same massacre. By its symbolism, the conservation of Oradour is unique in the world. The new town was rebuilt by the state, the work was completed in 1953. The cemetery houses one of the few lanterns of the Dead that remain in Limousin.
