This small, picturesque commune in the Oise department, with just under 300 inhabitants, lies between Villers-Cotterêts and Crépy-en-Valois. It is best known for its14th-century dungeon, a remarkable site open to visitors and a delightful blend of eras, from the Middle Ages to the present day. Vez was once the capital of the Valois region and, it is said, of the Gallic Vadicasse people, although this is still disputed by historians. The church of Saint-Martin-et-Saint-Léonard, built in the 13th century, is listed as a Monument Historique. Its inhabitants call themselves Vadais.
