On the road from Nantes to Saint-Nazaire, Saint-Père-en-Retz is a rural commune that has always been famous for its fairs and markets. During the Revolution, it absorbed the neighbouring parish of Sainte-Opportune. It has managed to preserve its traditions and heritage. Thus, in addition to the recently restored wash-house, the church, the Butte Sainte-Opportune and the menhir of the Roche Govi are worthy of interest. A commemorative plaque located at the crossroads of the Grande-Rue and the rue du Père-Aupias, in a small square, reminds us that Louis Ange Hyacinthe Pommeraye, the author and director of the famous Passage de Nantes, was born and died in Saint-Père-en-Retz.
