Saint-Molf is located on the Guérande peninsula, close to Assérac, Herbignac, Guérande, La Turballe and Mesquer. The commune has ancient origins, as evidenced by the presence of dolmens, menhirs and arrowheads, signs of a megalithic civilization. These unknown people were succeeded by the Armoricans, who were Celts. The town's name derives from the Irish monk Maidulf. The memory of the saint was brought by Breton emigrants from Great Britain, fleeing the Saxons. But Maidulf, too difficult to pronounce, was gradually transformed into Molf, pronounced "Mô" by the population and Latinized into Medulphus by the Church.
