In the 15th century, the fief belonged to the Machecoul family, including Gilles de Rais, and then to Pierre Landais, treasurer to François II, Duke of Brittany. Landais had the town's fortifications restored, and the 800-meter walls were pierced by 5 gates. He had a new castle built, of which two towers remain. The revolutionary period left its mark on Le Loroux: the Republicans set fire to the town in March 1794. Sites to visit include the fresco of Saint Gilles, the statue of Louis XVI, the remains of the castle, the Cahyer cross, the gateway to the Saint-Laurent chapel, the mills and the neo-Gothic Saint-Jean-Baptiste church.
