On the way to Fanshuliau, the Henan temple impresses by the presence of a 15 m high statue of Guanyin facing the ocean. At km 28 of Route 11, the caves of Fanshuliau, which resemble, in a scale model, those of Taroko, stand out. The valley of the Fanshuliau River is indeed surmounted by 60 m high cliffs at the foot of which bamboos grow. Legend has it that among the brave friendly tribe, young men measured their bravery by pole vaulting over the river with bamboo; the gap being 12 m, many perished with their bamboo poles, which are believed to be the source of the current shoots.
