Travel Guide Bouguenais

Between past and modernity, this is how the commune of Bouguenais appears. It is home to Nantes airport, until recently called Château Bougon. Traces of human activity have been found since antiquity and probably since prehistoric times. The history of Bouguenais crosses that of the conquest of Gaul by the Romans. In the past, the area was occupied by the forest of Touffou and noble houses abounded, such as the castellany of Bougon in the 9th century. An important feudal mound, whose traces can still be seen, was raised by Count Bégon, brother-in-law of the Carolingian king Charles the Bald, around 844.
