Couëron has a strong naval and industrial tradition and has always benefited from its location on the river. Nowadays, although the old activities have disappeared, the development of the commune has continued to grow, as has its population, which has doubled in the last fifty years. Its countryside is very pleasant, with a hilly terrain that descends to the Loire, starting from the groves of Sautron and Temple-de-Bretagne. The peace treaty with Charles VIII (which ended the independence of Brittany) was signed in Couëron by François II. And it is undoubtedly in the fertile valley of the marsh - today called Audubon marsh - that the famous ornithologist painter saw his vocation being born.
