If there are no mountains in Loire-Atlantique, there are nearly 6 000 Montagnards and Montagnardes, the names of the inhabitants of this recent commune, created in 1877. The mountain, which previously depended on the parish of Saint-Jean-de-Boiseau, owes its name to the eponymous villa which was located on the newly created municipality, which has become the current town hall. Villa "La Montagne" belonged to the director of the Forges of Indret, Mr. Demangeat. The presence of carved flint and the discovery of sarcophagi, however, confirm an older occupation. There were many ports along the Loire River, including the Roche Ballue and the Grand Port. It is on the lands of a chateau, the Hibaudière, that the Knight of Aux, new owner, will be built in 1769 the magnificent castle that can still be admired today. He was at the heart of the turmoil of history, revolutionary turmoil in the Vendée wars. The issue was important because it was a matter of protecting the foundry of Indret's guns, created on the order of Louis XVI in 1777. The site always has an industrial vocation and the history of the commune is closely anchored in the working memory. This is illustrated by the child of the Jean Cremet country, communist leader, and the 1848 flag carefully preserved at the Town Hall. A small and dynamic city looking forward, La Montagne remains committed to its past, and has had a council of wise men who recently published a book, Living Memory of La Montagne, from 1877 to the year 2000. Located 15 minutes from the center of Nantes and 30 minutes from the coast, La Montagne dominates the southern shore of the Loire River. The immediate proximity of Nantes puts La Montagne directly in touch with the main cultural and sporting events of the metropolis.
