At the confluence of the Scheldt and the Haine, Condé was one of the main strongholds of the region. As a border town, it was coveted by the Burgundians, the Spaniards and the French, who all walled it up and fortified it. In spite of the dismantling, the city has kept many traces of its military past: medieval ramparts, bastioned fortifications - the only ones in France made of stone. Also worth seeing are its three castles and the belfry. The city also offers to hikers different circuits on the old Ledoux mine and in the 780 ha Condé-Bonsecours state forest. A city full of discoveries!
