This castrum was a border crossing at Narbonne in the time of Julius Caesar. The old gate of the city, known as the Bas or the Midi Gate, built in the th century, testifies to the fortification of the village in the Middle Ages. The church was rebuilt in the th and th centuries. The originality of Anglès tienst above all in its privileged location, a crossroads between the Cevennes and the Mediterranean, which explains this unique climate  : the extreme limit of the ocean climate, soft and rainy, and the bitter winters of the mountain type. Snow and gelées are frequent and summers subjected to the warm influence of the Mediterranean climate. The blue gold of Agout flows into the green gold of the beech forests, pectinés fir, Douglas pine, Norway spruce, and black pines. The poor soil, granite, invites the development of the pastoral breeding and the development of the cheese dairies of Roquefort. Houses typical of granite walls, topped with slate roofs, once in town, and the walls of pine trees exposed to the north and north-west, covered with slate siding, give the place a certain charm. On the Lake Plateau (Saint-Peyres and the Raviège), but also on the road to Santiago de Compostela, Anglès has everything to please the castle of Campan.
