In a mountainous landscape that is already that of the Massif Central, the village sits on a promontory surrounded by a river. Faith and water have left their mark on the history of La Salvetat. The name "salvetat" refers to the medieval "sauveté", a space protected by the church, which attracted peasants who cleared the land, guaranteeing them the security and freedom that the world of feudalism no longer provided. We also think of the pilgrims who interrupt their journey to Compostela to adore a black Virgin. As for "l'agout", it means "water essential to life" in the langue d'oc. Bottled water is the future of La Salvetat.
