A major site of Cathar resistance, the town of Minerve rises above two rivers: the Cesse and the Brian. At the heart of a wild and grandiose setting of garrigues, gorges and bare cliffs, Minerve is one of the most extraordinary sites in the Hérault. It is one of the hundred most beautiful villages in France, and one of the most marked by history. Indeed, the town witnessed the Cathar tragedy of 1210, a crusade epic recounted in the Musée Hurepel. But there's much more to life here than that, and the town's heritage is still very much alive. It blends into the city's natural setting, adding majesty to the whole.
