The village of Gentioux-Pigerolles belonged to the Commanderie de Charrières (Order of Malta), as evidenced by the "terriers" of 1789 and its church. Its history was particularly influenced by the emigration of masons and stonemasons, moreover the signal of Condreau, the highest point of the commune (874 m), is crowned by the statue of Notre-Dame du Bâtiment in their honour. The commune is home to other remarkable heritage elements including a monument to pacifism, the village of Pallier, a 12th century chapel and the Senoueix bridge. Gentioux-Pigerolles is also impressive because of the nature that surrounds it. It is in this area that the Thaurion, the Creuse, and the Maulde, which will give its waters, a few kilometres downstream, to the lake of Vassivière. In winter, its relief allows it to become a ski area.
