Laroque-des-Albères was built around a promontory surrounded by watercourses and the nucleus of the village is established around the castle. With a very rich past, less than a quarter of an hour from the sea and at the foot of the Albères massif, this small commune of just over 2,000 inhabitants conceals a real charm, layered on the remains of its ancient ramparts. The old village is made up of a maze of narrow, sloping streets and its atmosphere is all Catalan with cosmopolitan accents. At the top of the village, the remains of the castle and the keep, which collapsed in 1890, offer a rather striking view of the Roussillon plain.
