Banyuls " la Lumineuse ", on the Côte Vermeille, where the Pyrenees meet the Mediterranean. A seaside resort appreciated for its beautiful beaches and intimate coves sheltered from the wind, it has managed to preserve its rich heritage. A picturesque fishing port with typical narrow streets that rise up in steps, Banyuls is best known for the famous natural sweet wine that is enjoyed while gazing out to sea. Banyuls-sur-Mer was also the birthplace of Aristide Maillol (1861-1944), one of the greatest French sculptors of the last century. A small but magnificent museum is dedicated to him, as well as an itinerary entitled "In the footsteps of Aristide".
