Surrounded by the vineyards that have made its wine famous, this small town, the birthplace of chronicler Ramón Muntaner, has long been a favorite Sunday lunch spot for Figuerenes. But that's not its only asset. Its castle-museum-casino surrounded by gardens, the Romanesque Sant Domènec cloister and the small squares and lanes of the historic center are reminders of the splendor it acquired throughout the Middle Ages, making it one of the most important towns in the Empordà. The best time to visit is in summer, when the town hosts two prestigious festivals: the Peralada Castle Festival and the Sant Domènec Cloister Festival.
