Jau CastleIt was Anne Aymone Giscard d'Estaing who started the first Vigneronne table of France at Jau Castle in 1977, while she was on official visit to Tautavel. The improvisé meal was done here in what was then only a wine estate, with the means of the edge, without kitchen, no amenities, grills, good bread, and wines served on trestles. Estelle Dauré still remembers this memorable reception; today, still no real kitchen, only a plancha and a large barbecue fireplace, and nice tables prepared by enzymes, to prepare the senses… to the essentials. Wine tasting and the magical setting, far from everything, the large pool of square stone, the cypress in perspective, and the smell so peculiar of one summer evening bring us into thought to Tuscany. The wines of Jau and Clos de Paulilles are déclinent throughout the meal, a simple kitchen - entrance, grill, magret, chops of lamb and roasted sausages, dessert - which honours the products of this land (at noon tasting menu 29 €, and evening 39 €, wine included).
