In the hollow of the Chapeauroux valley, at an altitude of 1,060 m, the village of Pierrefiche takes its name from the menhir, a granite block in the shape of a truncated cone, situated on the edge of an old road, the Chemin de l'Estrade. The Romanesque church, mentioned in 1249, has been remodeled. In the village and surrounding hamlets (Aurouzet, La Chaze, La Vaissière, Serres, Le Bavès), you'll discover some fine examples of rural architecture: restored bread ovens and a shoeing loom (in Serres) bear witness to the skills of the old builders; as do a few farmhouses: the Moulin du Bavès, Le Salamones and La Rochette, which are well worth a visit.
