Rozay-en-Brie boasts beautiful 16th-century half-timbered houses and other buildings such as the Hôtel du Sauvage and the 13th-century Church of the Nativity of the Virgin. The town boasts a few remnants of its ramparts, including two gates, listed as Historic Monuments, and its moats, now used for walks. Mentioned as early as the 11th century under the name of Rosetum and located between the kingdom of France and the county of Champagne, Rozay played both a defensive and commercial role, particularly during the Champagne fairs. Today, Rozay perpetuates the flower culture established by Thibault IV. The rose may well be the origin of its name.
