The history of Mauperthuis is linked to the musketeers of the illustrious Montesquiou-Fezensac family. However, its history began earlier. Mauperthuis, from malum pertusum, means "bad passage". It's true that the Malvoisine forest was long a den of bandits. In 1220, Le Roman de Renart mentions the goupil, lord of the château de Mauperthuis. Fortunately, today's environment is more promising. The proximity of the Aubetin valley and the many hiking and mountain-biking trails make for great outings. A rare painting by Théophile Gautier can be admired in the church, which can be visited on request from the town hall!
