Located eight kilometres east of Coulommiers, the small town owes its origin to the foundation by Sainte-Fare of a monastery welcoming men and women in the early th century. Rothilde, the daughter of Charlemagne was abbess, as was François's sister. Ronsard came to write a sonnet for Mrs de la Chasytre… and Bossuet, Bishop of Meaux, sang «the holiness of the monastery». Only preserved remains, the door of the holy place. As for the relic of Sainte Fare, saved from the revolutionary fury by Madame de Durfort, last abbess, it is in the church Saint-Sulpice - a monument classified - where one can see a very beautiful Virgin of the th century.
