Beautheil boasts an ancient history. In 868, Charles le Chauve had two churchmen sign a deed of exchange, and Joan of Arc made a stopover here on August 7, 1429, followed in 1680 by Louis XIV, who was on his way to meet Louvois... The Beautheil territory, comprising 17 hamlets and formerly 9 mills, includes a number of monuments, some of which have been much talked about, such as the Pierre-Fitte menhir and the Courtomer menhir located between Beautheil and Melun. The area is also home to ancient farms, the 12th-14th century church of Saint-Martin-et-Sainte-Anne, and the Chartreuse de Maillard, now converted into a gîte.
