The story begins in the 7th century with Saint Fursy. This monk from Ireland built the Saint-Pierre abbey at Lagny-sur-Marne. In the Middle Ages, Lagny, belonging to the county of Champagne, became one of the major centers of the Champagne fairs like Provins. The Trois Pignons building bears witness to this, once serving as a market hall and home to wealthy merchants from Ypres. Lagny has preserved other monuments from this past: the 13th-century Notre-Dame-des-Ardents church, the fortified gateway that served as the entrance to the former Saint-Pierre abbey (now the town hall), the façade of the former Saint-Fursy church, the Jeanne d'Arc tower, the chemin de Ronde, and more.
