Combs-la-Ville, once known as Cumbis Villa, was probably inhabited from ancient times, and in 636 was bequeathed by King Dagobert to the Abbey of Saint-Vincent, which later became Saint-Germain-des-Prés. Owned by King Louis XVIII, the town is characterized by its 18th-century mansions, including the Château de la Fresnaye, now an exhibition center, but above all by its artists and creators. The banks of the Yerres, with its beautiful walks, have inspired painters such as Caillebotte, while the Vaux-la-Reine district was home to the glassworks of the famous Lalique. The Fondation Jean Dubuffet is around 5 km away.
