Best known for the silhouette of its suspension bridge over the Seine, Tancarville is also an ancient stronghold. In the 12th century, at the request of the Dukes of Normandy and to defend the Seine valley, the Lords of Tancarville founded a castle here, which still bears their name. The village is divided into two parts: Tancarville-Haut and Tancarville-Bas, home to around 1,400 inhabitants. The famous Tancarville bridge, one of the town's most striking landmarks, was Europe's longest central span bridge in 1959. Discover also the ruins of the castle, once a fort in the 11th century, and the lighthouse house.
