Of about 9 km2, the small village of Triqueville has 355 inhabitants called the Triquevillais and Triquevillaises. Nearby, the Ferme cidricole du Ponctey deserves a stopover for any self-respecting gourmet. But if apple trees breathe serenity, this has not always been the case..The Triqueville airfield, located on a hill, was occupied by the Germans between 1940 and 1944, and received the Richthofen squadron, so feared by the Allies. The purpose of this base is to prepare for the invasion of England and to protect the beaches of the English Channel. From late 1942 to early August 1944, many air battles took place, causing extensive damage in the surrounding villages and a large number of aircraft wrecks. The resistance network of the Surcouf maquis also operates sabotage. The site was abandoned in mid-August due to a lack of fuel and tracks made impassable. The landscape today retains the stigmas of this episode of war, such as the remains of a hangar visible from the road.
