Crossed by the River Touques, the Gallo-Roman town of Noviomagus Lexoviorum, now Lisieux and capital of the Pays d'Auge, is a land of pilgrimage. Its basilica, a veritable architectural gem, and the relics of Saint Theresa attract almost a million visitors every year, making the liturgical precinct of Lisieux one of the most visited sites in Calvados and the second most popular pilgrimage site in France (after Lourdes), where you can go to pray and meditate at the great Theresian sites. Today, the town, also renowned for its gastronomy, is undergoing a facelift, and its inhabitants, the Lexoviens and Lexoviennes, remain closely linked.
