A small rural village in the Eure, protected by its patron saint Saint-Laurent, Selles makes a living from agriculture, mainly cereal farming. Do not miss its place where a majestic town hall and a church listed as historic monuments of the 11th century face each other.Celestin Drou's donation to the village of Selles. At the end of the 19th century, the town was marked by an unusual event. Indeed, Mr. Drou, born in Selles of farming parents, dreamed of making a fortune. He joined one of the greatest hotels in Le Havre as a waiter and married the boss' daughter. Having become rich, Célestin Drou retired to Paris where he became a shareholder of the Cusenier company. At his death, he bequeathed part of his fortune to his native town (the will dated July 4, 1890 is framed in the town hall).A remarkable town hall and a school were built and inaugurated in 1904 with part of Mr. Drou's legacy. In return, the municipality of Selles must maintain the grave of the generous donor who rests at the Montmartre cemetery in Paris.
