A commune of about 800 inhabitants formed in 1835 by the reunion of Saint-Mards-sur-Risle, whose name refers to Saint-Médard (Bishop of Noyon in the 7th century), and Blacarville. It is crossed by an old Roman road linking Aizier to Pont-Audemer. The castle of Saint-Mards-sur-Risle (16th century), listed as a Historic Monument but privately owned, and the church of Saint-Thibaut in Blacarville (late 15th century) can be seen here.
