Saint-Lothain is nicknamed the "village at 7 fountains". But you can also find a beautiful church, the Château de Baume, a th century abbey house and, more anecdotal, a statue of the inventor of matches! Charles Sauria, born in Poligny in 1812, designed friction chemical matches. He lived most of his life in Saint-Lothain where he died in 1895. His bust, erected in front of the school, was originally bronze, but during World War II the Germans made him melt into pieces of cannons. In 1972, a statue was erected again, but in stone this time. On the occasion of a great celebration for the centenary of his death, the largest box of matches in the world was developed and displayed in a field. She is at the Guinness Book of Records.
