Roman and Lupicin, the two founding brothers of the abbey of Condat (Saint-Claude) founded in Pratz, the female monastery of Balme, for their sister Iola. He lived up to a hundred nuns, on a rock overhanging the coomb. It was here in 460 that Roman found death by visiting his sister. The monastery remains a Romanesque chapel built later, in the th or th centuries. It's a beautiful goal of walking from the hamlet of Saint-Romain-de-Roche. In the th century, Pratz developed through a very large marble career. The yellow colour of this stone bears the name "Lamartine Yellow". The poet's father was indeed Lord of Pratz, a title inherited from his mother.
