Valençay is famous for its goat cheese and its castle, which was once owned by Talleyrand. In 1813, it was in Valençay, by the treaty that bears the name of the town, that Napoleon Bonaparte returned the Spanish throne to Ferdinand VII. In 1972 Claude Chabrol filmed Les Noces rouges and in 2006 Jean-Daniel Verhaeghe filmed one of the scenes from Le Grand Meaulnes at the train station, which is classified as a historical monument. In Valençay, you can see Talleyrand's tomb, which can be visited, a Franco-British memorial erected in memory of the 104 agents of Section F of the Special Operations Executive who died in service during the Second World War and a wheat market.
