Timetable Timetable

Museums generally open from 9am to 1pm and from 3pm to 7pm and close on Sundays and Mondays, as well as on public holidays. In Dakar, Mbour or Saint-Louis, one can appreciate the colourful return of fishermen to the beaches around 5 pm. As for the traditional markets, they generally come alive in the morning or at the end of the day.

Main events Main events

From traditional festivals to cultural events, many events punctuate the life of the Senegalese. For some, the dates are known long in advance, for others, they are fixed according to the lunar calendar. In all cases, ask for information on the spot. You may be invited to a baptism or a wedding, don't miss the opportunity: these are lively and friendly celebrations where you will be immersed in the heart of Senegalese culture.

Guided tours Guided tours

There are two types of guides in Senegal: those who have the official card issued by the Ministry of Tourism, and those who do not. It is therefore recommended that if you take a guide, especially in Gorée or Saint-Louis, to make sure that your guide has this card.

What's very local What's very local

Travelling through the maze of the bolongs, these mangrove-lined inlets, by pirogue is a must in the Sine-Saloum and Lower Casamance regions. Take advantage of this peaceful moment to observe egrets, ospreys, or other shorebirds, and plan with your guide a walk on one of the many islands that line the bolongs. If you are numerous, you can rent a private pirogue with a guide. Count around 60 000 FCFA for the rental. Otherwise, guides propose specific walks for a more reasonable price
