A must-see during a stay in Senegal, Fadiouth is an artificial island, populated by about 4,000 souls, and built on a pile of shells. It is 90% Catholic, quite the opposite of the rest of the country, and houses a mixed cemetery, unique in Senegal. Here, the tourist is not abandoned: Joal-Fadiouth has a tourist office, with competent guides at a fixed price, it is appreciable! On landing on the island, one is immediately struck by the whiteness of the hulls that cover the ground, the majestic trees such as this 800 year old baobab, enthroned in the middle of the village and the millet granaries on stilts.
