Saint-Hilaire-en-Lignières is located 3 kilometres south of Lignières. The municipality is fed by the river Arnon. In the Middle Ages, the village of Saint-Hilaire-de-Borneis is challenged by the one that builds around the castle of Lignières. Although older, Saint Hilaire eventually becomes less important than the new village, called Lignières. Saint Hilaire-de-Borneis becomes Saint Hilaire-en-Lignières at the End of the Middle ages. During the French Revolution, the commune provisionally entered the name of Vère-sur-Arnon. In Saint Hilaire-en-Lignières, you can see the castle of Plaix, historical monument since 1995 and Saint Hilaire church historic monument since 1912.
