Located in the heart of the Champagne-Berrichonne region, Issoudun is an ancient city that owes its name to the Celtic language. A royal city since 1240, it owes its prosperity to the importance of its fairs and markets and the quality of its crafts (leather goods) and vineyards. The Saint-Roch hospice (12th-15th centuries) is a rich museum. Balzac lived in Issoudun for several years. The Tour blanche, a medieval vestige, is still the center of a very popular festival. Built in the late 12th century by Richard the Lionheart, it overlooks the old town. An emblematic monument, it can be visited, and from its summit there's a breathtaking view of the surrounding area.
