THE WHITE TOWER
This fortified tower was built from 1195 to 1202 at the request of Richard Cœur de Lion, King of England and duke of Aquitaine. After his death, and thanks to the wedding of Louis de France and Blanche de Castille, the tower will return to the kingdom of France. You will discover the history of White Castile and the Guard Room, with a recent scenography of Giovanna Piraina. Three levels and the terrace are visited. At the top of the tower, a breathtaking panorama - a unique view - on the city and its surroundings is unveiled. A model represents the city in the seventeenth century. As a follow-up to the great medieval festival held every year, since 1995, and in order to revive the White Tower, Yan Defrasne, responsible for the tourist office, decided to create a street theater festival. Since 1999, in early May, you will be able to attend the White Tower holidays: concerts, theater performances, picnic, and the inevitable fireworks! A festive program, where shows are free, making Issoudune the main street theater meeting in the south of the Center.
