Châteauroux, prefecture of the Indre department, began its industrial expansion in the early 19th century, with the development of tobacco and textile factories. This was followed in the 20th century by the establishment of an aviation plant in Déols in 1936, and finally an American base from 1951 to 1967. The latter gave way to the Châteauroux-Déols airport. As well as the Hotel Bertrand museum, you'll love discovering the heritage of this charming commune: the Château Raoul, the neoclassical courthouse, and the churches of Saint-André and Notre-Dame. The former Tobacco Factory unfortunately fell victim to a fire in 2018.
