Saint-Martin-de-Commune was first a dependency of the territory of Montcenis, of the diocese of Autun. Later an annex of Saint-Émiland, Saint-Martin became a parish in 1827. Between a pond and a stream, the Castle of Digoine gives the image of a fortified house of the 14th century. The commune also has a Romanesque church from the 12th century.
