Ravno/Равно has about 600 inhabitants, 82% of whom are Bosnian-Croats and 17% Bosnian-Serbs. It is the capital of the municipality of Ravno (3,300 inhabitants), within the Herzegovina-Neretva canton. The village is 20 km southeast of Hutovo, 22 km northeast of Slano (Croatia), 40 km south of Stolac(via Ljubinje) and 47 km northwest of Trebinje. Two buses/day to Stolac.Surrounded by beautiful Mediterranean hilly landscapes, Ravno is today a peaceful village which benefits from the presence in its surroundings of two important sites of visit: the cave of Vjetrenica and the monastery of Zavala. It is also a must stop for cyclists following the Ćiro trail between Čapljina and Dubrovnik with, here, a good hotel and a few guest houses. It is also a landlocked village, difficult to access without a car or outside organized travel. Because it is located very close to the Croatian border and, especially, 1 km west of the border with the Serbian Republic of Bosnia, which was the front line during the last war. Ravno was completely destroyed in October 1991 by the Yugoslav forces (under Serbian control) who were besieging Dubrovnik. Many ruined houses still remain. But the village has regained most of its pre-war Catholic and Orthodox population. The territory of the municipality has even grown with a long strip following the Croatian border for 50 km southeast to the hinterland of Dubrovnik, south of Trebinje.
