The historic village of Lastovo does not look out to sea, but rather away from it, historically fearing the arrival of pirates. The beautiful 15th and 16th century houses, built in an arc on the mountain, are connected by stone staircases, with wide terraces and topped by cylindrical chimneys. The numerous churches and the rector's palace are worth seeing. The inhabitants live year-round from fishing and their fertile lands, where olive trees, cherry trees, wild edible plants and vines grow, from which a rare wine (plavac mali) is made. In summer, the arrival of tourists is a welcome manna.
