This nature park is called Park Prirode Blidinje/Парк Природе Блидиње (pronounced "park prirodé blidineyé"). It covers 364 km2 between the municipalities of Posušje, Tomislavgrad, Mostar and Jablanica. The seat is in Masna Luka (1 inhabitant, no bus connection), 33 km southeast of Tomislavgrad, 36 km west of Jablanica, 41 km northwest of Posušje, 72 km southeast of Livno and 83 km northwest of Mostar.Beautiful, very mountainous and almost uninhabited, the Blidinje Nature Park has been on the Unesco tentative list for World Heritage listing since 2015. Created in 1995 on the initiative of the Franciscans, it is an important site for the Bosnian-Croats: it hosted their huge herds and served as a refuge for their hero, the haiduk (brigand) Mijat Tomić in the 17th century. It was not always empty. This is evidenced by the medieval remains of the Dugo polje: stećci, stone buildings and walls that delimited properties. Located at 1,200 m above sea level, this karst plateau now has a ski resort and an amazing fake mini-republic. It is surrounded by the Vran Massif to the west (2,074 m) and Čvrsnica to the east, which culminates at Mount Pločno (2,228 m). In the center, Lake Blidinje is dominated on the southwest by the Čabulja massif (1,786 m). Covered 40% by forests, the park is home to the world's largest reserve of Bosnian white pines, other plant endemics as well as numerous butterflies, bears, foxes, and wild boars.
