The last inhabited island of the archipelago (16.5 km²). In the days of the Republic, the rector's palace stood in Šipanska-Luka, where the majority of the islanders live today. Great families from Ragusa built summer residences here, patrician palaces, such as that of Bishop Beccadelli, immortalized by Titian. Much less touristic than Lopud, the island has kept its agricultural side (wine and olive growing). Connected to Dubrovnik and Mljet by ferries and catamarans, it also has a good infrastructure: two hotels, seasonal rentals, cafes, restaurants, coves and beaches, one of which is naturist.
