The Kechrovouni monastery was built in the 11th century. Within its walls, Sister Pelagia saw the apparition of the Virgin Mary, revealing to her the location of a miraculous icon. Following this event, the Church of the Mother of God was built. Today, its impressive size is the result of a combination of several smaller churches and other contemplative spaces. Here you'll find a superb wooden iconostasis and magnificent wall paintings. Visit the museum containing ancient icons from the 18th and 19th centuries. Please remember to wear pants or skirts below the knee and closed shoes.
